Sore Sore’s Shelf is a Jakarta based multidisciplinary platform through which we create our prints and publications as a materialisation of our desire to convey the self in relations to the natural world, from its rawest sentiments to the printed matter you hold in your hands.

The beauty of human experience is that every one of us have our own stories, and we believe that every one of them is worth sharing to the world. Talk to us through our e-mail address if you'd like to collaborate with us!

Following the tradition of the sore sore non-Chinese calendar: celebrating the year of the dragon, we are representing the dragon in our annual calendar.

In the theme of the eternal renewal (both in our attempt at making a non-Chinese calendar again this year, and also to life), the calendar moves onto the next month by turning the inside wheel clockwise, volvelle-style. On the wheel is a dragon; it travels with the turn of the wheel, symbolizing life's journey and progression.

10/10

The photo zine “10/10” by Dhika Prabowo begins with the dark and traumatic journey of a woman who experienced sexual abuse as a child, grew up without the love of a father, to struggles with mental health and several suicide attempts. In her struggle, she realized that she might be one of the lucky ones to be taught to forgive and saved from dying to understand life better. She continues to try to live even though it still hurts.

She inks black ink with the words ‘Forgive’; now forever on her veins in the skin of her right wrist.

LA MER

LA MER is a memento mori; but rather than being a reminder of the inevitability of death, LA MER its intended to remind us of beauty; the beauty of everyday life that we often miss and ignore. Designed based on a prose I wrote about the sea, hence the title LA MER, the colour blue is constantly used throughout the design to invoke a picturesque atmosphere of the sea.

PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS

PENNY FOR MY THOUGHTS is a zine of a series of diary entries telling a story of Anonymous' trip to New Zealand. But when most people would tell their amazing experience of venturing a destination, Anonymous would rather tell us their anticipation and excitement of the thought of going to New Zealand. Most of their diary entries revolves around their experiences, emotions, and observations of seemingly mundane things that lead up to their New Zealand trip, and their diary entries abruptly ends once they actually arrived at their destination.

A 2023 Calendar: Also, a Collection of Rabbits, Bunnies, and/or Hares Known Universally; A Homage to the Year of the Rabbit.

As the people who celebrate Chinese New Year, we are kind of fed up with Chinese calendars depicting each year’s designated zodiac animals. It was our inspiration into designing making this calendar / artbook. How is this an artbook, and why are Chinese calendars an inspiration? When designing this particular object, we thought it would be a cathartic experience to go against the basic principles of a calendar. What turned up is this calendar / artbook that is also a collection rabbits, bunnies, and/or hares known universally.

A Pack of 5 Red Packets & 25 Wisdom Sticks

The Lunar calendar is another dating system that is quite used in the country I live in, because we do not use it in our daily lives, but only to mark the special occasions that our culture celebrates. It has always been something I only mindlessly follow every year.

It was a waste for such a culturally rich event to be disregarded like that by us, and this work is my response to that. Perhaps, if we know more about the event, we may have more appreciation towards it.
